Veteran's Day - Nov 11, 2012
Armistice Day was enacted, in 1938, as an official
American holiday to commemorate the end of World War 1 and to honor those
who served. After WWII, American citizens felt that veterans of all wars
should be recognized and honored, not just those who served in WWI. In 1954
Congress changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. At this time
nearly 3 million U.S. veterans are honored in the United States with
parades, ceremonies and other events.
