TEE BALL Is Fun! Personalized Sports Book

Tee Ball, (or tball) as we know it, started in the 1960's, thanks to Dr. Dayton Hobbs, a
school teacher from Bagdad, Florida.

The idea for Tee Ball came to him as he was coaching a group of 14 & 15 year olds.  He
saw younger children lining the fences watching with envy the older children playing
ball.  He started formulating the rules for Tee Ball and eventually organized teams to
play.  As they played, rules were refined and Tee Ball became a part of American sports.

"In 2001, President Bush launched his White House Tee Ball Initiative in recognition of the role baseball has played in American history, and its importance as a tool for fostering spirit and teamwork among America's youth. Now in its seventh year, President Bush is hosting two games on the South Lawn of the White House this summer. On June 27, the White House held it's first-ever Softball Tee ball game, honoring the contribution of women in the world of sports. At this game, the Luray Little League Red Wings met the Allegany County Little League Bobcats on the field."  Quoted from George W. Bush web site.

Again, the umpire placed the ball on top of the tee. Sam eyed the ball and swung straight. Wow! What a hit! It was a hot infield grounder. Sam ran like a jack rabbit!

The short stop grabbed the ball and threw it to first base, but the throw was not quick enough. Sam ran across the bag just beating the ball. The umpire signaled, "Safe!"

Folks in the stands shouted for joy! "Yeah, Sam! Yeah, Sam! We knew you could do it!" Everyone clapped and cheered.

TEE BALL® is FUN!  (Complete Story)

was created especially for

Samuel Turner
at the age of 5

Always have fun!
Mom and Dad

When springtime came in Atlanta, GA, excitement was in the air. Flowers were blooming, bees were humming, birds were singing, and something special was going on around the ball park. It was TEE BALL time!

Boys, girls, playmates, and friends were gathering. Samuel Turner, along with Billy Bob and Ron, stood side by side. They were on the same TEE BALL team with many other friends. They were all very happy to be on the Atlanta Hawks team together.

Happy to see them, the coach promised they would practice and learn how to bat, catch, slide, and other important things. Sam tried hard to always listen to the coach, and keep his eye on the ball, to swing the bat level, and to play safely.

TEE BALL® games were always exciting. Sam's parents came to watch. So did Billy Bob and Ron's parents. Many other parents and grandparents were in the stands too. When Sam and other players did well, they clapped and shouted! It was fun!

When Sam came to bat with his helmet on just right, the umpire set the TEE BALL up on the tee. Sam took a deep breath and swung the bat with all his might!

Oh, oh! He swung so hard he spun all the way around - but the TEE BALL was still sitting on the tee. "Strike one!" the ump called.

Billy Bob and Ron shouted, "Go ahead, Sam! You can do it!" Sam heard someone call out from the stands, "C'mon Sam! You can hit it!"

After the game, Coach James gave all of the players a high five. One of the mothers had good, cold fruit punch and cookies waiting for them. Ummm! Sam, along with Billy Bob and Ron, and all of their teammates, liked cookies-especially chocolate!

Sam and his teammates dreamed of being All-Stars and going to the TEE BALL World Series in Milton, Florida, where TEE BALL Baseball® was born. What a thrill that would be!

For now, though, they gathered under a big tree to eat their snack. Coach James said, "You all did a good job today. I am proud of you! Did you learn anything that will help you next time?"

Sam perked, "Keep your eye on the ball!" Billy Bob and Ron chirped, "Listen to the coach! Be a good sport! Don't be a quitter!"

"That's right," said the coach. "TEE BALL is not just about winning. It is about playing fair and doing what is right. It is about being a good winner and not being sore if you lose."

Sam knew the Coach was right!

All of the boys and girls agreed! Then Coach James grinned and said, "But the best part of TEE BALL is..." Just then, Sam and the whole team shouted together, "TEE BALL® is FUN!"
