Ann Carmichael
Happy Birthday!!!
Love,
Ron and Danny
Today is the day that Ann Carmichael is going to stand in front of her Sunday School class and recite her favorite Bible story.
Everyone is excited. . . that is, everyone except Ann.
"Tap, tap, tap."
"I'll be out in a minute," Ann snaps at whoever is
tapping on the door.
"Tap, tap, tap."
Reluctantly, Ann opens the door.
Much to her surprise, Ann finds herself face to face with . . . a camel! A big, brown, single-hump camel, knocking at her bathroom door! What is a camel doing in Ann's house?
"This is silly. Camels can't talk."
Ann is in no mood for jokes.
She has to be ready to tell her story in
thirty minutes.
"But I am talking," says the camel, "and I was sent to help you. We must hurry
now. Touch my reins with your right hand."
Ann gently touches
the camel's reins and suddenly finds herself
standing in what appears to be a desert.
"Where are we?" she asks the camel.
But before the camel could answer,
Ann sees a crowd of people beside a lake talking
with a man whose gentle smile makes her feel calm.
A voice in the crowd shouts, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
Facing the people, the man answers in a soft voice that floats over the crowd, reaching Ann's ears as if she were standing right next to Him.
Ann looks at the
camel. His large, sad brown eyes stare at the scene in the desert.
"Who is that man?" asks Ann.
"Ssh," replies the camel, "Just listen."
Another voice from the crowd bellows. "What miraculous sign will you give that we may see it and believe in you? Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: "He gave them bread from heaven to eat."
The man raises his hands to silence the crowd.
Ann listens closely.
"I tell you the truth. . . it is my Father who gives you the true bread from
heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to
the world."
Ann smiles as the people shout, "Sir, from now on,
give us this bread!"
And the man answers, "I am the bread of life. He
who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be
thirsty. . . my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes
in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
Ann couldn't believe her
ears. She finally realizes that
she has been listening to . . . Jesus!
She turns and looks at the camel. "I believe
you've solved your problem, Ann."
"Tap, tap, tap," comes the knocking on the bathroom door.
Ann places her hands on the sink -- the porcelain
feels wonderfully cool following her journey into
the desert. "Who is it?" she asks.
"It's your friends, Ann. Are you ready to go?"
Ann takes a deep
breath. Yes, she is ready.
She is definitely ready to tell everyone in her
Sunday School class about the wonderful story of Jesus talking to the people in
the desert.
She can't wait to tell how Jesus spoke directly to
her heart and soul telling
her just to believe in Him and that everything would be fine.
She knows that Jesus lived and died for
her, and that now it is time for
Ann to do something for Him!
"Yes, I'm ready to go," says Ann. "My friends, I'm
ready!"
